MitID and casino login in Denmark - what the law requires

Every Danish licensed casino in our overview requires strong identification at login and registration. Since 1 July 2022 operators follow updated executive orders on eID - in practice MitID, which replaced NemID (*Spillemyndigheden, May 2022*).

This is legally required for licence holders - not a brand choice.

What Spillemyndigheden published

Executive orders for online casino and online betting were amended so approved electronic ID must be used. There was a transition period where both NemID and MitID could be used.

MitID, ROFUS and one identity

MitID links you to CPR-based identity, enabling:

• ROFUS - self-exclusion across all registered domains
• Age verification - 18+ on the licensed market
• KYC on first withdrawal - standard AML

MitID and payments

MitID is for login and verification - not payment. Deposits still use MobilePay, Trustly, cards etc.

MitID issues - our experience

In our 2026 mobile test (editorial opinion) slow MitID flows reduce UX scores - operators cannot remove MitID and keep a Danish licence.

Our view

MitID is a security benefit of Danish licensing - more friction, better protection than anonymous foreign accounts.

Conclusion

MitID is a factual requirement since 2022 - verify licence at verify licence and pick operators on top rating.
